The temperature is lower, the air is less heavy and the sun is still shining. It’s the perfect season to train outside! How? Here are a few ideas that will make you want to head out and get some exercise outdoors.

PARKS

Parks are the perfect place to make your workout creative with childrens’s play structures, tables and benches! For even more fun, find a park with a TREKFIT fitness circuit (website). Choose four exercises and do 10 to 20 repetitions, three or four times each.

THE MOUNTAINS

When the leaves start to change colour, head to a mountain and immerse yourself in magic. I love Mont-Royal and Mont Saint-Hilaire, near Montreal. Go at your own pace! Do 30 to 60 minutes of fast walking, or do a run all the way to the top. Since the sun rises later in the fall, it’s a great opportunity to enjoy a beautiful sunrise!

SOCCER AND FOOTBALL FIELDS

I love doing a workout on sports fields with real or artificial grass and clearly marked distances of 10 to 50 yards. The turf is flat and comfortable under your feet, and you can alternate between running and walking for each yard.

AWESOME! BUT WHAT DO I EAT AFTER MY WORKOUT?

Coaches agree: the best time to eat carbohydrates is before or after your workout!

MEALS

It’s important to combine a source of carbs with a source of protein. For a good post-workout meal, try a ½ cup of quinoa withsweet potato and wild or basmati rice. Your muscles have worked hard, and now’s the time to supply them with nutritious food!

SNACKS

You may get hungry between meals, so plan a snack that you can carry easily, like trail mix. My favourites are definitely the blends from PRANA, a Quebec brand. You can also opt for homemade energy balls, organic energy bars or a protein smoothie, like the one available at the Rachelle Béry snack bar. So grab your sneakers, put on a hoodie and head outside for some exercise! For more ideas, follow Stefani Derome here: instagram.com/stefani_missfit/
