When I need to treat acne, I prefer white clay. It contains several minerals including zinc, calcium, potassium, iron, silicon and magnesium, making it a very interesting product to clean and nourish the skin. It’s the perfect ingredient for a mask since it does what it needs to without dehydrating the skin, unlike other types of clay. Adding oil improves the texture and also acts to gently nourish the skin. Using clay as a mask is really easy, fun, and effective. I apply it regularly to control breakouts, so about once a week. If the skin problem is more serious, you can combine this treatment with other medications and creams. You can also use the mask as an occasional deep cleaning treatment. Here’s what you’ll need:
  • 150 mL white clay
  • 10 mL dried lavender flowers crushed in a coffee grinder
  • 2 drops essential lavender oil
  • 5 mL rose oil, jojoba oil, or another neutral plant oil
Place all ingredients, except essential oil, in a glass bowl. Never use a metal bowl since it can tarnish, or a plastic bowl, since it contains petroleum. Use a wooden utensil for the same reasons. Combine well and add some fresh and pure water until texture resembles mayonnaise. Cover with a white cloth and place bowl in the sun for an hour or two to energise the mix. Add the essential oil just before use. Apply to clean skin and leave for no longer than 15 minutes. Rinse gently and thoroughly. Apply some rose water spray to refresh and tone skin.
