A 100% organic summer

I have recently discovered the advantages of Quebec organic meat! Meats of unparalleled quality, they are the fruit of our local producers’ passion. As for flavour or conviction, this locally produced meat will convince you to jump on the organic meat bandwagon. You'll become an enthusiast just like me, and this summer your barbecue will be hot for organic meat!

Worth its weight in gold

Let’s not kid ourselves, organic meat is indeed more expensive than its traditional counterpart. For farmers, organic breeding incurs a 30 to 40% increase in production costs. And for the consumer, the cost can seem even more striking, but in fact, the price is justified.

  • A balanced, varied, and organic diet for the animals costs more.
  • Since the use of antibiotics and growth hormones is not permitted, animals have a longer growth period and overseeing their health requires increased vigilance.
  • Larger grazing pastures are advised to enable animals to move about easily and live more “naturally.” Not common practice today, these criteria may seem insignificant, but animals that move more eat more!
  • Adapted transport and more respectful practices are important in reducing animals' slaughter-related stress.
  • All this care and special attention are, on top of everything else, subject to traceability as required by organic certification bodies.

In short, fewer animals are being bred, but each one represents a much larger investment.

One producer, one vocation

Given all these constraints, it's clear that farmers who decide to undertake organic breeding do so for the love of the job. At present, there are about 100 farms with exemplary practices producing organic meat in Quebec. An impressive number, but it still accounts for only about 1% of all meat production.

The authentic taste of breeding with no shortcuts!

All this effort to breed animals has an impact on meat quality. Organic meat generally contains a little less fat and therefore, proportionally, a little more protein. It's also recognized by many first-class restaurants throughout the province for its great taste and appearance.
